Dark Matter
An abyss of extra-deep black engulfs the panel, swallowing light and creating an almost velvet void. From this darkness, a vaguely humanoid silhouette emerges at center—facing forward, its features distorted into ghostly suggestion by irregular white scratches and clustered dots that faintly map eyes, nose, and mouth. Stark-white electric lines burst outward from the head in jagged, radiant streaks—like corrupted data streams or neural lightning—while hundreds of thinner horizontal and vertical lines slash across the field in chaotic interference.
Overlapping blocks, static bursts, and fragmented rectangular bands at the edges amplify the sense of digital corruption: a scanned image glitching mid-transmission, a file fracturing under unseen pressure. The high-contrast palette—pure black void pierced by crisp white—generates relentless visual noise, turning quiet presence into eerie malfunction.
Notice how the central figure’s faint features draw the eye inward to a haunting stare, only for radiating lines and slashing interference to fling it outward in restless disruption—creating rhythmic tension between fragile emergence and violent dissolution, human form and digital decay.
A standalone work blending abstract glitch aesthetics with existential undertone, this painting evokes dark matter as metaphor: invisible force made visible through breakdown, the unseen rendered as fractured light in an enveloping night.
How does this spectral face flickering through electric static stir your sense of hidden presence, technological unease, or the poetry of what lurks just beyond perception?
Technical notes.
Unique painting. Acrylic on board. Unframed dimensions: 20” high x 16” wide. Signed by the artist on the back, dated 2021.
